Me, Too, I Know Those Particular Streetlamps

Me too
I know those particular streetlamps
where the woman crowd
in the jaundiced light
the unrequited eyes
the smiles that melt off
the body, a ripe statue
and the street like a river

There is a cafe still open
I see you there too
where the people come
with their night hunger
saying 'toujours pour la derniere fois.'
they stare out of half-windows
and they speak of ruins
An angel could pass by
with her gothic shoulders
gleaming, unnoticed

I would serve a myth
to the people who eat there
