An Untimely Love

Alas, my love, do not speak.
For you speak, and all that you are,
Or ever will be is revealed.
My heart says I love you,
But my head says no.
For you cannot love
That which you do not know.
If you should speak,
My heart would say, 'See,
I do know this man,
And he is beautiful.'
And it would feel free to love.
It is not free to love,
No more than I, so please my love...
Do not speak, and I shall not hear.
And we shall not love!
