In the hug of the Indian Ocean
Lies the mother of a great nation.
She is still a pleasing beauty
Enough to arouse neighbour's envy.
Though a many a time ravished she was
By greedy nations lured by her grace
She boldly survived every brute
And paved the way to a nation great.
Ne'er again you're to be harmed
So long as I am armed.
Even from the cold grave
You will have my ghost brave.
(This poem is in honour of my motherland Sri Lanka which was once under three colonial rulers from the west.)
