Outback Dreaming

Across the far horizons
I hear the ghosts of the past
Beautiful but sad
Are the lands so vast

In the starved land
The trees are green and brown
And the horses and their masters
Are coming homeward bound

Whirly winds are spiralling
Close to the rusty shed
This is what the drovers call
Their trusty loved homestead

Where drought stricken land
Is lying in slumber
Secrets are heard
In the wind’s mournful murmur

Waves of heat
In this place never wet
Wash over the parched land
Until the sun sets
