Fleeting

Blood and fear and tears beneath my feet
They creep around my toes and grind against my skin
Only in battle to the death do they meet
And leave at bay all those who win

No victor, however, there is in war
For violence breeds only more death and hate
Lower your fists and weapons therefore
And feast with your brethren before it's too late

Our lives are fleeting like perfume on skin
Savor the scent while it lingers
The only meaningful things are within
And so many will let them slip through their fingers
