A Cold, Callous Moon (Requited Love; A Memory)

She was in
Her favorite dress
Cold and drunk
How could I resist?

I took a picture in my mind
Things that never change
But these summer roses die
And wither away

Without a shout
a sharp release
a slow descent
Into the ground

Ejected
silently, painfully, inelegantly
Into

A regret
a cold, callous moon
pierces through the memories
that ache
in the silence
for our loss
our waste
in the yearning for what is gone

A safe, intimate place
To lie there
Was to breathe
To touch her skin
Was to ...
