Woman's Reply To Shelley's 'Love's Philosophy'
The flowers do not search for rain;
The clouds above will bring it to them;
And no brother flower's disdained
Once his worth he's proven.
True, nothing's single on this earth,
But it's my philosophy
That those most loved are being served.
So why don't you serve me?
When the mountains kiss high heaven,
The mounts must reach, not heav'n stoop low;
And see how far the sunlight's driven
To come and clasp its beau.
The lovelorn moon must circle earth
For a chance to kiss the sea.
So start to serve and show your worth,
And maybe you'll kiss me!
