If My Heart Could Whisper

If my heart could whisper
I know just what it'd say
'You fall in love, but hit the ground
Now I'm the one who'll pay.'
'You don't understand, ' I'd cry,
'It's harder than you know.'
And then my heart would give a nod
Whisper, its voice down low.
'You try hard not to feel
And you say I do not know.
But can't you see these wounds of mine?
Surely they must show.'
And then for a while,
Me and my heart would fight.
We'd holler to the morning,
And through the darkest night.
And just before the sun could break,
My heart would just give ...
