Absentee 'Father'

Later, tomorrow, someday,
That's all you used to say
Daddy, will you take me out?
Yes, but some other day.

I'd like to talk about my feelings,
Okay, but it'll have to wait,
All the kids are going out with their daddies,
We can do that too, but just not today.

How about going to the beach?
Later today, he'd say,
Later, tomorrow, someday,
It's never happened, to date.

Older, I am now,
No, you don't have to ask me to wait,
For I shall never ask anything of you,
Those chances have gone away.

Father, I never knew you, ...
