'Oi, hardliner? ' you said, 'pull the other one! '
I looked up from the floor and
I smiled at you from the corners of my eyes.
'Me? Straight-edge as always sweetheart'
And you laughed and I did, but the last-train strangers
Moved 'subtly' further away from the two of us.
'Oh, and I love you...' you said and I pretended not to hear it.
A phone rings but it's only someone checking that I'm alive,
And we start to count all the lights outside the window -
'That's how much I love you...'
I hum the first few lines of a familiar, heartbreaking song
And you break ...
