151. There Was A Woman Who Wanted To Be Accepted

Rating: 3.5

There was a woman who wanted to be accepted
she was so unlikable because of how she with people
she was a victim in her eyes because of her past
but her torturer was not the people around her
who in their own way did mock her
it was her own psychosis that was doing the damage

Three days after her ninth birthday
a monster was created within her mind
a creature formed of her own self hatred
soon parts of her personality started to fail
generosity confidence self respect and charm
all died before she was 20
buried without ceremony
in the graveyard of her darkening soul

the monster grew stronger as each one passed
it fed on all the negative energy that was produced
it wanted to take total control
to conquer her completely

Then one dark day
when she had almost lost all hope
a man appeared in her life
he was kind caring and understanding
a bright light in the gloom of her world

He helped her forge a shining sword
and urged her to slay the beast inside of her mind
his presence had worked wonders on her existence
and reluctantly she went out to face it

Her self-loathing was found in the burial ground
preparing a freshly dug grave
she drew her sword from its sheath
and prepared to do battle

But as the bright blade touched the demon's skin
the ground opened up around it
her dead personality traits rose up and joined her attack
their combined efforts defeating the evil within

Now she has proved to all she is a fighter
she faced her darkness
conquered it completely
and with that triumph
she earned friends and respect
has helped teach others how to do the same
from a figure of ridicule
she became a symbol of optimism

A very well written tale of conquering the dæmons inside the head, albeit, I must say, a touch too optimistic, and vaguely unrealistic. But on the whole, as a poem, it tells more about the readers - like for me, the glass will be half empty perhaps no matter what, for many others, this poem can show them that it is half full. Thank you for sharing.

Its like a woman who has personality disorder, has conquered it all when a man came and rescue him.

A wonderful poem. I am glad she found someone to help her. I wish it was as easy as a poem. Thank you

She was so unlikable because of how she.....? .....with people. .....oops! :) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - my favorite stanza: But as the bright blade touched the demon's skin the ground opened up around it her dead personality traits rose up and joined her attack their combined efforts defeating the evil within .........................you make it sound so SIMPLE. i also particularly enjoyed the line much-enjoyed by colleen, below. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - if the bible had not already been written, i would recommend you to be one of its writers. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - but who was the mysterious man who helped her turn her life around? ? ? and what caused her decline in the first place? some material for future poems perhaps? you DO write some wonderful tales! keep up the good work. thanks for sharing. bri :) i did not even miss humour/humor and rhyming which are so much a part of most of my poems.

This is such a great poem of hope and inspiration for all those who continue to fight their own inner demons on a daily basis. I love the line, buried without ceremony, in the graveyard of her darkening soul. Such a wonderful line! As is your closing lines also! Great job John!
