A Dagger Of Betrayal Poem by Orlando Belo

A Dagger Of Betrayal

Without warning, you decided to stab me
in the back with a dagger of betrayal.
There were no signs of discontentment,
you just vanished into the rain and hail.

You deserted me on a desolate island of sorrow,
I was lost in a maze beyond my comprehension.
Still, you continually deceive me in my mind,
but I can see no reason or justification.

I have died several times with heartbreak,
I'm becoming withered like an autumn leaf.
I'm unable to escape from your memories
and the passage of time brings no relief.

Today I saw a reflection in a shop window,
it reminded me of you as you once were.
But then a voice softly whispered my name,
as if it knew me well, and seemed to care.

Close up, betrayal has done you no favours,
You've been burdened by the passage of time.
Your body was now bent and decrepit,
and your face map shows every line.

I was angry with myself for wasting my life,
and for not moving on to pastures new.
My memory book of life was filled with scars,
which all emanated from you.
