(a)loss Of Words Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

(a)loss Of Words

A loss of words.
To make the seeking,
With a hope to find...
Any of them to make sense again,
Has left many to begin to see...
Leaving their mouths,
Shut not to open to keep closed...
Is a better remedy.
Than trying to find a peace of mind,
Done with this to wish...
What appears to be a craziness,
Is not the latest rage.
That everyone seems these days,
To make a fashion statement of it.

"How are you these days? "

-How do you 'think' I am doing?
Do you see me doing cartwheels?
Am I skipping around,
Like I just found a million dollars?
Do you want me to hit you with my cane?
Do I look to you as if I'm insane?
Have you lost your mind?
Asking me how I am doing these days.
Do I look like a fool to you?
DO I? -

"I...uh...
I apologize."

-You ought to.
We don't need any more people,
Trying to pretend everything is okay.
Trying to make believe,
Everything is so...
Positive!
Well it ain't.-

A loss of words.
Or for them found to say anything.
Is better to leave them not to find.
When many these days,
Seem they are out to prove,
A sharing of their negative attitudes...
Is the best way they can find,
To express their gratitude.

-Sure.
Go ahead.
You better walk away from me.
You ain't 'All That'.
Did you hear me?
'YOU...AIN'T...ALL OF THAT'.-
