A Mad Idea's Birthplace Poem by Raj Dronamraju

A Mad Idea's Birthplace

Announcement of a birth
Slightly above the average weight of eight pounds
Over eight pounds of dense nomenclature, contradictory philosophy, instilled mania

Your suggestions sound like commands
They feel like a riot somewhere getting closer
Can hear the harsh, barked vocabulary of mob incitement

The need for an idea that explains why, offers hope, points a finger
Empowers even the most unintelligent
Doesn't take much to provoke someone to pick up a rock

They'll disseminate the word though cultural osmosis
Hope that those that don't read books listen to the megaphone
The man on the streets propels himself into the man on television
His videos are able, he's got a better haircut

Its origins will be traced to here
In cities full of boarded up shops and abandoned houses, graffiti marred walls and youth who stare you down as you drive past quickly
Here no one owns anything
What was called growth burned out quickly
Its life was short, the condition was incurable
