A Painting by Rembrandt about to fetch 6 million pounds
-Gayathri B. Seetharam
I woke up feeling at peace with the world
Despite my familiar cause for some unhappiness
Which is that I cannot seem to make money for my published work
When the golden sunshine seemed to come in through the barren tree tops;
I hummed to myself, sunshine on a beautiful day
And which filters in on cloudy days,
Seemed to flood the house with its optimism
On this cold winter day;
I saw on the internet that
Rembrandt's painting titled Study of a Head of A Young Man,
Was about to fetch a neat six million pounds
And I looked at the painting;
It is a splendid painting as good as that of my female and male nudes
And I drank in every detail of the subject's face in the painting
I thought that his lips were parted as if he was about to say something
He has an intent look of concentration on his face
I studied his nose painted as beautifully as the rest of his face, a shiny nose,
Which sits well on the image;
He has an arched right eyebrow
And a straight left eyebrow
Suggesting to me that he is a straight thinker
With an appreciation for the sciences
His eyes do have a faraway look
As if he is deep in thought;
His hair is long and at odds with his eyebrows
For curates and artists tend to have long hair
It is curled at the ends suggesting that he has a rebel in him
And I think that he is worth the 6 million pounds somebody will pay to possess him.
