We write down the words
That we choose for our poems
We do it in our own special way
As our mind continues to roam
We finish one line after another
We get down the meaning so well
Unfortunately a little voice in our head
Has information it needs to tell
Perhaps a word isn’t quite perfect
And the ‘look’ may not be right
“Change it, ” the voice continues
We see flashing luminous lights
Sometimes the voice is really quite subtle
We want it to go away, it’s true
Occasionally it does, but at other times
It’s persistent, has it happened to you?
So what should we do my fellow poet?
When we hear that inner voice
For me I usually have to listen to it
It seems I have no other choice
We plug along, best as we can
No matter what others’ might think
Enjoying the craft is the bottom line
For a poem can come to us in a blink!
ahhhh what a dilemma! There is a strong part of me that says 'Leave it alone! That's the way it was meant to come out! ' and yet you look it over and you hear that other voice say.....'maybe just change this word, it's too cliche', and that line is a bit rough, etc, etc.....' I think you brought up a great point that many of us struggle with.
This is so true. Even after i am finished I go back and shorten it up a bit or change the words. Such a great stress reliever tho. Get it down just right on paper, it seems to not take up so much space in your mind. Loved your concept 10 and counting
I ALWAYS LISTEN TO MY INNER VOICE............i recorded those voices and translated it into a poem.
This poem has not been translated into any other language yet.
I would like to translate this poem
I always respect that inner voice and it has never let me down. 'Perhaps a word isn’t quite perfect And the ‘look’ may not be right “Change it, ” the voice continues We see flashing luminous lights' Liked this stanza but following two lines are simply outstanding. That's the ultimate truth! 'Enjoying the craft is the bottom line For a poem can come to us in a blink! ' Thank you for this beautiful work... A sweet 10
