A Sad Morning Poem by Ruta Mohapatra

A Sad Morning

Rating: 5.0

As I drove myself to office
Refreshed after a good night's sleep
A piece of rag came to my notice
In the middle of the road

A dog stood panting by the roadside
Its breasts swollen with milk
The rag was her baby pup
Crushed to death by careless wheels

My heart skipped a bit
Dear God, help that mother bear it
I prayed

What else could I do?
Before death
I was as powerless as that grieving mother
