Other than the death of a friend or loved one, There can be no worse loss for a poet or a novelist than the loss of a polished gem that said exactly what we wanted it to say. Those who don't write say- no big deal, write it again. I never have been able to- -a word has fled, a perfect phrase refuses to come to mind again, and it has taken its perfection with it.
