A Separation Poem by Pallavi Tripathi

A Separation

Rating: 5.0

It's not you, it's the situation
He said. I started recalling
the happy-sad, bitter-sweet
moments of our brief life together
were those lies?
He said, 'We were friends
nothing more.' I was scared
at the thought: does he do
what he did to me
to all his friends?
My mother wept
My tears refused to come out
Someone said, 'your mother's crying'

I wanted to say
she cries when little
toys break. Here whole
house is broken. What
else can I expect?

I started remembering
the marital vows we
took before the holy fire
It extinguished real fast
Burning with it
a home that could have been!
