A Threat To Democracy Poem by Terence George Craddock

A Threat To Democracy

Rating: 5.0

democracy put down roots
in the blood soaked soil
in red sacrifices suffering

of an American war of independence

men fought bleed died
for an American independence
now perceived are threats

a threatened end
to freedom of speech
freedom of protest

freedom democracy
strived for so hard won
is cancer undermined

mass media fueled divisions
freedom rights belonging to many
stolen hijacked shredded

a war has been launched
on individual freedom of thought
an individual right to choice

in schools children taught not
how to think but what to think
an official political agenda is

media sold right to disagreement
is radical dissent politically incorrect
wrong a right to personal thought

reasoned moral intellectual thought
is shouted down protest heckled attacked
news media was once a truth quest

the new not reporting news
the new is creating news
all halo herd mentality news

there is nothing redeeming
in lying feeding false facts
to public agenda deceiving

oh where oh where did good
journalists go gutter tabloids
sacked truth prints market lies
