Alone In Delhi Poem by Geoffrey Fafard

Alone In Delhi

Rating: 4.8

I gave them all a hard time today
And they read me, stepping foot to foot
Because today
Not one of the 25 million people in this city
Want to be near me
Even her
Even me
The waiter so young from Dehradun
Sad that I passed through his town
Without bothering to learn the name
Of one person
Or his now
It is sad that I am here
And not clever enough
To write a book
Like
The Koran or Midnights Children
Or The Gardener
Or even a weak Tagore copy
Or even a Bollywood song
Perhaps a two line rhyming Indian sonnet
Or a quote about the content
Of the 10 rupee stamp
I have bought
Or even the name
Of an indian dog
I met today
Who is alone like me
In Delhi
