And Kitchen Sink Remains Flooded Poem by Aniruddha Pathak

And Kitchen Sink Remains Flooded

Rating: 5.0

A kitchen sink
Gets when over flooded,
Thoughtless we rush,
Not a moment to think,
We rush to mop dry the floor,
And there lies the great lore.

This is precisely how
Doctors tend to treat us,
Backing them up
The drug-cartels' nexus,
They, forgetting the root cause—
Why the water tap flooding was.

But then we all know
What easy be to treat,
But there forever lurks a doubt
If anyone would it readily greet,
Plain truth is: there's in it no money,
Be it docs, drugs or any.

There lies the truth so stark,
Bite less be our dog-like bark,
For, the lifestyle treatment,
Not the treatment of the ailment,
Helps only but the patient,
Not docs-hospital regiment!

Now, if a doc, let us say,
Were to simply say:
Beware O patient, change your food,
And your lifestyle for good,
Chances are he'll soon starve,
And cartels a falling curve would carve.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Inspired by ‘How Not To Die', a book by Dr Michael Gregor. The kitchen sink remains flooded, for, the passage remains blocked. They stand for blood vessels that remain clogged.

A great metaphorical write. Insightful and with a meaningful message. A doctor of great depth must always aim for the treatment of the ailment and not a lifestyle treatment. An excellent write as always.

Stunning metaphor, Aniruddha. This is one of your finest verses. You remind us all...we are our own best physicians when we change some small but life impacting things. Great verse!
