Last night, I slept on the couch
With my headphones on, listening to the sounds
Of the ocean
My dog sleeping on my legs; I couldn't move
We were waiting for you to come
But you didn't arrive until the morning
I knew that because you woke up
By handing me my coffee
I saw the regret
Yr face was riddled with it
And you didn't have an explaination
But I didn't want one
I knew you were with them
Getting drunk and high
You know I have distaste for them
However, you can do what you want
You're old enough
You should think of yr responsibilities
I just saying you better think of us
The next time
This made me think of an experience I had just a few months before I moved from my parents' place the first time, a long time ago. Brilliant, LeeAnn!
A straightforward and heartfelt poem. I subscribe to the wisdom of this wonderful poem. Beautifully expressed.
