Angel By Day, Vampire By Night Poem by Paula Glynn

Angel By Day, Vampire By Night

I am an angel by day
Never spitting on those beneath me
Never ignoring the sick and the needy
Never insulting those drug addicts
Never insulting the alcoholics of the world
Always raising lots of money for charity.

I am an angel by day
Wearing stylish and expensive clothes
Wearing shoes Average Joe and Jane never wear
Wearing heavy makeup by fashion designers
Wearing glittering Pandora jewellery
Loving dressing in diamonds and pearls.

I am an angel by day
Living in a luxurious hotel-style mansion
Living a life of wealth and enchantment
Living a life in the public eye
Living in front of the public where I do try
Always a figurehead with respect and power.

I am a vampire by night
Spitting on the vulnerable tramps
Getting nasty attention on the sick and the needy
Calling drug addicts trash and scum
Thinking my fake image means I've won
Playing some kind of sick power game.

I am a vampire by night
My once beautiful face now ugly
My charm and kindness now only disgrace
Where nastiness takes the place of grace
People fearing me, fearing my vampire face
If they knew the real me respect would turn to hate.

I am a vampire at night
Showing my evil true colours:
Mean and vicious with no respect
A vampire that draws frightening blood
In hatred and unforgettable boiling rage:
For I am a vampire that has a harsh lesson to learn.
