Another Poem On The Group Of Seven

Another poem on the Group of Seven
-Gayathri B. Seetharam
I went to Circle K yesterday afternoon and
I thought Circle K for Ken or for kith and kin
And rue the fact that I do not long for my near and dear ones
To be a constant factor in my life
And I am glad that I am a Canadian citizen and an immigrant
For loving though I am, I find that I do not have
An excuse to be left alone to do my dearest thing in life,
The pursuit of my ambition;

But the Group of Seven come to mind when I think of 7-11,
The other store, and the Group of Seven painting that I see
On the internet is by Tom Thomson and which takes us to
Algonquin Park via the scenic Highway 11;

I saw his painting on the said theme, View from a Height,
It is beautiful with a colourful blend of colours and pictursque aspects,
And is on the Algonquin Provincial Park's website
And it is a true depiction of how aesthetically pleasing the Park is in the summer or fall;

The quality that sets the Group of Seven apart from all other Canadian artists is
That they saw unbelievable beauty in the sights that meet the eye on a careful
Or cursory examination of the delights that are optically luminiscent
And in Northern Lake, Tom Thomson has painted a lake with Spartan trees
And trees with luxuriant growth
And made a pleasing landscape painting;

With the passing of 100 years after the movement of the Group of Seven artists
We see their signature in the mountainous west coast with the massive evergreen forests
And the rich, green valleys which speak of tremendous beauty
The Canadian Prairies with wide-open fields and flat, arable land
Make the region the base of Canadian agriculture
Central Canada, also known as the Laurentian region,
is a mostly green landscape of rolling hills, grassy fields,
And deciduous forests topped by a barren and rocky north
A mix of rocky coasts and forested interiors, the landscape of Atlantic Canada,
Also known as the Maritimes, has been shaped by its proximity to the ocean,
With steep cliffs, high tides, and long coastal fjords
The extreme north of Canada, where virtually no humans live at all,
Is an archipelago of massive islands covered by snowy tundra, vast, frozen glaciers,
And towering mountains.
