Autumn's Court Poem by Kathy Van Kurin

Autumn's Court

Rating: 5.0

Heavy mist presence, extend your scepter;
Horn of power, autumn!
I see you holding court,
calling to attention your realm.
Flashing banners wave!
Gilded leaf confetti falling.
Blood fire pulled from very earth,
Strength of our days.
Simply command us, we your loyal subjects!
Brilliance majestic entrances our eyes.
We bow!
Your fire burns within our souls.
Oh we need your brilliance.
Warrior strength-pure, coalesces within!
To live in courage, fear conquered?
Oh opportunity!
Slowly she enters in procession
wearing deep multi- colored robes.
Every minute passing,
splendor emits beauty's fragrance.
Purest amber, royal purple, orange passion;
Oh Majesty!
She has visited us but even now she is fading.
'To short, to short' must your leave us!
Fading, fading..one last dance.
She welcomes the prince of winter as her partner.
They twirl, weave and meet
in echoes of approaching winter.
Rush of tempest, the royal ones rise;
twirling the whirlwind!
We gaze after them in joy!
Fall to winter, they still dance.
Life continues, our hearts lift in anticipation.
Short fleeting minute's precious.
Enter our realm, winter!

This is so very vivid that I feel like I can close my eyes and see myself surrounded by all those leaves- -much nicer than all this snow and ice I am actually surrounded by! I would love to see you write a poem about snow and ice- -and post it in summertime when it is over 100 degrees outside. Well-done approach to this theme also makes this poem unique as well as the colorful vibrant images! ! ! Took 23 minutes to get PH to post this comment.

Susan Williams, I know that many deal with snow in the winter- not always so fun! I live in the Pacific Northwest of Oregon, Willamette valley. We are even getting colder weather then used to for December. So this was a satisfying poem to write and it is nice to think that anyone understands what I am trying to say- you just never know. So Thank you, thank you, thank you for your informative and kind review. It is these contacts that make it kind of nice putting our stuff out before others. Bless your life and writing and Merry Christmas. Kathy

'Flashing banners wave! Gilded leaf confetti falling.'............ Arresting picture of Autumn! Your poem documents so well the transition from Autumn to Winter! There is no sense of loss expressed but new anticipations and fresh hopes! A lovely write picturing Nature in all her splendor!
