Average Joe And Jane Poem by Paula Glynn

Average Joe And Jane

I am just your average Joe and Jane,
Where life is always the same,
And to the rich,
We forever play the same games,
Taunting yet clapping,
Money sometimes,
A web of deceit,
Your average Joe and Jane to cheat,
Whether in the casino,
Or other possibilities of life,
Such as the contract of a book,
Average Joe and Jane,
To take a second look,
And then turn into a master crook.

I am just your average Joe and Jane,
Where I am normal yet plain.
Although to wear makeup,
I always wear average clothes,
And always look the same,
With no stylish footwear,
And average hair care,
That visit to the hairdresser,
To just be an average hair cut,
Never looking like a model,
And when I do see a model,
I hear stories of acid,
Being thrown into their face,
To make them look ugly and a disgrace,
Jealousy to destroy a model's face.

I am just your average Joe and Jane,
Games of the mind,
Leaving fools and losers blind,
For money is quickly,
Parted from a fool,
And still a fool,
Until they graduate school,
Qualifications to be difficult,
Average Joe and Jane,
The same,
And barely skimming by,
Barely going for it and not to really try,
Those classmates doing much better,
And smiling when in their cars,
As average Joe and Jane,
Waits at the bus stop getting wetter.

I am just your average Joe and Jane,
Lack of money, people in dire straits,
And wishing to play the game,
Of criminality; of abuse and violence,
Where in the streets,
There is never silence,
As you always hear those sirens,
City life for average Joe and Jane,
And Joe and Jane to know the pain,
Of life without money,
Life of corruption,
Yet something keeping them alive,
As day passes day,
And night passes night,
To hear from the window,
Those gangster fights,
Knives used, children abused,
The evil world of average Joe and Jane,

But church offers redemption,
As I write these words,
For poor does not always equal evil,
Rich does not always equal corrupt,
For evil starts in the soul,
And where the soul goes,
No one knows,
But I know this:
I am your average Joe and Jane,
But I am beautiful on the inside,
Where this soul has nothing to hide,
And where all the colours of the rainbow,
Give me self respect and pride.
