Away From Me Poem by Kewayne Wadley

Away From Me

I've never been the one for many words.
Nonetheless speak in front of a
lot of people. Just as sure as curtains
rise up. At some point they must come
down. There are certain people that
come into your life that makes you feel
like the next moment can't get here
quick enough. Everything they say or
do is perfect. For a split second, you
forget about the pressure of having the
light shown on you so bright. You no
longer care if you forget the lines
you've practiced over and over again or
if you trip or fall or do anything that's
utterly embarrassing.
The stage suddenly doesn't feel like a
stage at all. It's people like this you
always hear about but until you meet
them. You think yeah right. You wish
you can do everything with them. Go
everywhere with them. It's not exactly
rocket science but those lines you've
practiced over and over again suddenly
don't matter. Every moment becomes
perfect. Perhaps the only thing that
slips your mind is that eventually. The
curtain must come down. When it
does. We're almost never ready for it to
come down. Just as sure as it is for
someone to grab the rope and pull it up
again. When people like this come into
your life. You never want to see them
leave. I've never been one for
rehearsed words or knowing the right
thing to say or the right moment to say
them. Before the curtain closes and we
both take our bow and go our separate
ways. It's important that you know that
you're one of these special people that
come one in a million. Before you turn
your back and walk away for good. I
ask that you take your time with every
step that you take away from me
