Be Yourself Poem by Walter W. Safar

Be Yourself

Rating: 5.0

We are all briefly in this world,
Just a blaze of love's spark
In someone's heart.
When the dark conquering army marches the sky -
With a single star left shining
To drop its turquoise tears onto the face of the Earth -
When the storm beats against the old church's copper bell,
The angel's choir sings: Be yourself!

When lightning strikes like burning arrows
Into the heart of the master of deceptions -
Into the cold system's seemingly gallant armour:
Be yourself! - an reef amidst the ocean,
A beacon at the heart of the purple fog.

When demonic fires bare the thick forest of passion - Be yourself!
Be the king of a new path of dreams.
If dreams are the seed of life,
Then dreamers are the plowmen
Who leave the deepest ridges in the hardest soil
Tread upon by noble-hearted giants;

When cold winds of greed carry it all away,
Be a fair captain of the invincible army of dreamers.
When dark clouds cover the sky,
Let your conscience be your compass -
Because only those who follow the call of conscience
May reach noble objectives;

When the green poison of jealousy flows in your veins,
Life is but a foggy endless horizon of unfulfilled wished.
When accursed addiction seduces you
Disguised as irresistible false hope,
Don't be a chainless slave!
When hatred poisons your mind and spirit, find a cure in love,
Return to your good Self: Be yourself!
Know that while you're trying to escape yourself,
You may not be able look at the man in the mirror,
And we're only briefly here in this world;

When hunger and poverty follow you closer than your own shadow,
Do not follow the echo of promises made by mellifluous masters,
Lest you and up a taxidermist trophy - a spectre has many disguises,
But hunger has only one face;
Be yourself!
When greed sings into your ears like a seductress:
Be mine and you can be all you want -
Turn around and go your own way, listen to your conscience: Be yourself!
You shall honor your soul in doing so,
We are all briefly in this world.

yes, be yourself.. Love the taxidermist's trophy image! oddly enough in England we've just had a Reality TV show set in Australia with celebrities and the winner was the man who was himself, deservedly so. So you poem is well timed!
