take any moment
or face or feature and wrap
it in stone breeds awe
but allow it to run free
eternal beauty escapes

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This is my attempt to mash up Keats, Shelley, Sonnet 18 and a hint of Poe. I wrote several versions before arriving at this tanka. A few other versions, near-tankas, I like just as much- -

take any moment
or face or feature and wrap
it in rock engenders awe
but allow it to run free
eternal beauty escapes
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Take any moment
or face or feature and wrap
It in stone engenders awe,
yet permit it to roam free;
eternal beauty escapes

This Tank really reflects beauty of expression. Face of feature takes an interesting moment. Eternal beauty escapes from human perception but eternal beauty revives inside soul and eternally we hold this within light of wisdom. Nice and brilliant poem is shared.10

The mind is a beautiful thing. And yours is beyond that, M.J. You keep coming up with these great ideas for poems. And then you nail them...beautifully. The beauty of 10! ! ! My poetic response: Beauties From this now moment To eternity Beauty gives life freely And in death is reborn

Beauty will remain beauty even if it is hidden under a stone. Beauty can never be annihilated. In death, it achieves eternity! This is how I would like to read your poem!

There is always much to ponder over in your poetry and I do mean ponder! You make me think out of my box and what a liberating and frightful thing that can be! I want to argue with your conclusion but my mind keeps circling back to it and feeling a wistful agreement! Very good piece! 10++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Thank you so much, Susan. I can now read this poem depending on my mood. If I'm inspired by Poe, the it can be related to death (the stone) , but with Keats, it can be a mould, a sculpture... beauty can be found in such a variety of circumstances....Thanks again; thanks so much.
