Before. Enduring. Or After Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Before. Enduring. Or After

There are no moments that come,
To anyone done to personally feel.
Than those one knows,
No one else can understand.
Even if they claim to imagine.
Yet...
On a mission are some,
Expressing empathy and sincerity.
With tissue in hand if a neccessity.
Asking permission to listen.
Believing this is what another needs.
When emotions are revealed.
To be released freely.

However...
There are no moments to come,
Affecting effectively...
With memories emotionally felt to keep.
Or have another anticipate,
Their arrival or time to come.
Without invitation.
Or suggest they should be confessed.
Letting them out to be revealed.
When someone already knows,
What is felt to feel.
To have experienced the reality of it.

"Oh.
You don't have to say a word.
I can just imagine how you feel."

-Before?
Enduring?
Or after the healing process? -

"Well.
Uh.
Well...I...uh.
See.
I knew it.
All you needed,
Was someone here to listen."

-And...
I thank you.
For giving us both that time.
To sit with nothing to say.
Sometimes,
That is the best support...
To another one can give.-
