Beneath Them Is Reality To Accept Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Beneath Them Is Reality To Accept

No one should care.
About the expense others spend,
To make impressions.
From head to toe.
In tailored suits to shoes that glow.
Spit shined to be seen,
Where people like this...
Gleam with glitz and splendor.

No one should care.
About how others appear,
In broad daylight to give image.
Especially after Sunset and Moonlight shows,
Them stepping out of gutters.
Carrying their plastic covered disguises.
Hoping not to reveal,
The reality of their lives...
They will continue to deny.
To live and prefer.
But to expose would be beneath them!

And...
The reality of their admission,
To dismiss as disbelief.
Is an honest confession,
Many will not accept or suspect it.
