Better You Know - Poem by Amitava Sur

We like it or not-
Sadness with misery and pain, itself is our life.
Accident, disaster and misfortune are so inevitable in it,
Whatever way we endeavor to get away from them,
For sure, with vengeance they will hit us back.

Joy is an accident like a lightning in between.
But sorrow looms all over in our life’s whole span.
Joy sparkles in it, sometimes, somehow!
Sorrow gulps us so aggressively and prolonged.

We live with dreams in achieving joy
But sorrow is stretched out every where.
We may be camouflaged or hallucinated
With joy for a few moments or a spell,
But sorrow with its misery and strife
Will drown us into a frightening darkness.

So, enjoy every moment of joy
Whatever is available to you
Allow others also to enjoy their joyous moments.
Knowing the fact –
Sadness with misery and pain, itself is our life.

Very touching and truer words were never said, Amitava. There is so much sorrow and misery in this world today, we are suffering under the strain of it all throughout the world. When joy sparkles, as you say, enjoy every moment of it before it's destroyed again by misery and pain. Live and let others live their moments of joy while they are able, all the while knowing that sadness is itself the mainstay of human nature. Wonderfully written poem, Little One, it resonates in the minds of all humanity, it's truth manifested in the words you have written. You have captured the essence of humanity in these few words, a true philosopher, a prophet in our world. Thank you for sharing. RoseAnn (Report) Reply

In this sorrow is so common to a point of being ignored but joy is scarce and that is why we need to enjoy every available moment of it. Great poem. (Report) Reply
