Bitter, But Salubrious. Poem by Nabakishore Dash

Bitter, But Salubrious.

Rating: 5.0

Neither attractive to your vision
nor do I give you feel good sensation
when you caress me with your soft palm.
But bestowed with many virtues
that keep you safe from odds and
do no harm.

Grown easily in fields and fences,
remain hidden in my climbing
body and leaves as well.
Available in all seasons, places
homes, hotels and motels.

My juice is full of medicinal values,
controls hypertension, lessens
body weight and reduces obesity.
A great medicine in diabetes,
blood cleansing and many
troubles in tummy.

Headache goes away by
application of a layer of crushed
leaves on the forehead.
Skin and eye diseases never tread
by my regular use as it is said.

Vitamins, minerals, proteins
are abundant in my body.
Fight against severe ailments,
enhance your natural immunity.

I am a rough diamond,
repugnant in look and taste.
My contents are very wholesome,
can you tell my name?

I am the bitter gourd,
your faithful body guard.
Ensure your health and strength,
enliven you to work very hard.
