Black Cat Tread Carefully Poem by M.J. Lemon

Black Cat Tread Carefully

Rating: 5.0

Whenever I hear Mechanic, the mechanic
and context lacks
I think of Charles Bronson
and only yesterday asked myself why
Where is the sense in visiting
a long gone action star
once perhaps the world's greatest
(I think he was) ,
most famous
now faded
residing in memories
perhaps, though hopefully not,
only in mine

Look closer and the broken blossoms cover
gems, the lost souls, the saintly Buddha
tainted but not destroyed
by the moral opium
now beating down the door-
The closet no longer can contain
shrieks of terror, cries of pain

All this because not so long ago
I noticed the last words
I really saw the temptress
dressed in black
pulling him near
skin-tight Gothic leggings
only to, in a moment, reveal-
the underworld
Then I saw through eyes afire
through clotted decayed gore
through mouth extended, all red
I saw through the monster beast
I saw all that
but this time failed to see
even one black cat

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

I didn't see this movie but I enjoyed Charles Bronson in other movies- especially the Great Escape... it is odd how each generation clasps their singers or movie stars close and deny the new ones taking their place have any equal talent- -my Mother loved Ginger Rogers and I learned that she wasn't just a dancer partnering with Fred Astaire- - she was an actress, a very fine one....10 +++++++++

Unwritten Soul 18 October 2020

Im not a movie lover, not even know the star...im sorry because of my lack of exposure in movies. But as i explore him with the reference u added, helped by facts i found. I amazed! I amaze of how adoration can help a fan craft a beautiful tribute. The diction from line to line is " something" ! Love it

Soul, thank you so very much. The poem itself starts with Bronson and then addresses other works. I find they all have something, some common theme. Thanks again.

i 'loved' C. Bronson in Death Wish. In 1972 movie The Mechanic, Arthur Bishop (Charles Bronson) is a veteran hit man. I didn't see it. It seems the hit man thought of himself as an (killing) 'artist'. I like you, Mj Lemon, and shall continue to (as a friend) , but the poem is a stinker for me. Am i nuts, as i found it under " hot poems" on PH main page? i 'never' visit 'hot poems' nor much else PH suggests. bri :) p.s. the title attracted me

Likewise, Bri....But I do toil under the weight of the abstract and surreal. To paraphrase the opposite of what one great academic once said....sometimes, maybe, a flower pot isn't just a flower pot.

Kostas, I agree! And Susan, yes Ginger Rogers was a great actress. So, by the way, was Astaire. I think they both did some of their finest work in drama after the 1940s. Richard, thank you so much. Something you mentioned really reminds me of the 70s, a time when all of the artists you mention did some of their finest work.
