Calling Me To Follow Poem by Obed dela Cruz

Calling Me To Follow

When I was formed in love the time the world was so free—
The time when worries and cares for a moment aside.
When a father’s pride and mother’s heart grew more dearly
As they wait for me until I breathe the air outside.
In tender patience, a Voice calling me to follow.

And by time, my stature stood as learning mind matures
Until the talks of chocolates and childish tales fade.
Knowing more about the world and all of its natures,
Speaking the truth I knew and what experience has made
While in heart, there is a Voice calling me to follow.

From gardens to waterfalls, from shores to the ocean,
From the urges of my heart to the reach of my hand!
I climbed mountains just to hear the words of wise men
So that the emptiness be gone away far a strand.
If I just listened the Voice calling me to follow.

Then turned woodland darkness where even moonlight is rare,
Where even stars in the night hushed like dying embers.
Left in fear in the howling murmurs of winter’s air,
No soothing comfort in the sound of troubled waters.
That is when I found the Voice calling me to follow.

Far above the skies, I felt I was reaching the Sun,
For my burdens fled and my longings are satisfied.
The bitter tears of silver rain clouds came to be gone
When I accepted the Love that was first crucified
Then has been a Sweet Voice still calling me to follow.

And I will wait for that hour as I let faith increase,
Being firm and still whatever happens in this life.
For when the mortal sands of time started to decrease
And the ills are taken away as well as the strife,
I will dwell with the Voice that has called me to follow.
