Catholic Priest Poem by Colin Ian Jeffery

Catholic Priest

Priest in celibate loneliness
Prays for strength of character
As need for physical love torments.
Called Father by congregation
Never knowing joys of fatherhood.

Consumed with desires he must not fulfil
The Catholic Church has degreed
Priests not to marry or know physical love
And besieged by dark demons
Must endure the loneliness of their calling.

St Peter, the first Pope was married
Head of the Christian Church
Disciple, fisherman who fished for souls
Whom Christ called his rock
Upon which he built his Church.
