Charity (By St. Thiruvalluvar In Tamil) Poem by Rajendran Muthiah

Charity (By St. Thiruvalluvar In Tamil)

221.To give something to the needy is charity.
All else given for some returns do not have parity.
222.Even if it guides you in ways good, to beg is ill.
Though the heaven were denied, to give is good.
223.To plead not poor and give to the needy
Is the habit of the noble-born.
224.Till the supplicant’s face reflects delight
To watch begging and delay giving is not right.
225.The power of him who does penance to bear hunger
Stands next to the power of him who appeases that hunger.
226.The act of alleviation of the killing hunger of the poor
Is the coffers of storing wealth of one who has got.
227 The fiery disease of hunger shall never touch him
Who has the habit of sharing and eating with others.
228.Don’t the cruel men know the delight of giving the poor?
The misers don’t give but hoard and lose their wealth.
229.To top up the store, if one gives not and eats alone,
Surely, it is more miserable than begging.
