POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
The Cheshire Cheese was a huge pub on the Oldham road going into Manchester. The drag acts were incredibly funny and any backchat from the audience was given acidly brilliant put downs. Diamond Lil was quite small but he could sort out any real troublemakers.
It was nearly 40 miles from where we lived but a marvellous night out!

Actually the Cheese made in Cheshire is very bland, not to my taste. Prefer Camembert! The show at the Cheshire Cheese was far from bland! A riotously funny night out. Well worth the long trip to Manchester.

They were better than most professionals and it was free to get in. Cerise, in particular, was a class act and very funny.
