Christmas - Remembering Jesus Nativity Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

Christmas - Remembering Jesus Nativity

A night of a star and an infant in a manger
a night when two poor parents lodged themselves
in a cowshed outside the inn and silently waited,
a night when Mary gave birth to that little child
who would be known to the world forever;

a night when the three kings came searching
a night when an angel showed them the way
a night when three kings found Jesus
a night when angels kept singing
a night when a child was fast asleep in a home
meant for cows and sheep;

a night when was born a child
so full of compassion and self-sacrifice,
a night when a child was born
who would teach the world
of love and forgiveness,
a night when a child was born
to heal the sick and the ailing,
a night when a child was born
who would help the blind to see
and the lame to walk;

a night when a child was born
to restore life and make miracles,
a night when a child was born
who would make the kings feel
pensive and intimidated,
a night when a child was born
who would die on a cross for his goodness;
a night when a child was born
who would be put to death by kings
and high priests though he was innocent;

a night when a child was born
who would be remembered for generations
a night when a child was born
who in his mother's arms slept
and in his carpenter father's care grew up
to be a leader and a preacher,
a night when a child was born
to teach the world to practice
love and compassion,
kindness and forgiveness;

a night when a child was born
who would die on a cross
when he was only thirty three
and fill his own mother's eyes
with tears and pain,
a night when a child was born
who would be known to the world
as Jesus Christ forever and ever;
a night when a child was born
who would be remembered for centuries
and the world would take pride to celebrate
his birthday year after year,
a night when a child was born
who would be connecting the world
with his birth day
and usher Christmas joy in every heart,

a night when a child was born
who would be revered by people rich or poor
and they would go on to make cribs and stars
sing and dance, eat and rejoice
in his memory forever,
a night when a child was born
who would bless the world with his recollections
and make Christmas day so special in every home.
