Comfort Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Comfort

Easily impressionable.
Disqualified and underage.
Living in comfort.
Yet behind closed and locked doors,
A teaching continues...
To disbelieve the truth.
Instead to accept a rage.
That ignores values and standards,
Established foundations...
Were built upon.
With it hoped to remain that way.

"United we must,
Seek truth to trust.
And obey with ways,
That stays...
Faithful to Almighty God! "

Although...
Too many in these,
Turbulent days...
Have been made to believe,
Only a few have rights to receive...
Entitlements to get.
Yet not feel a committment,
To perform a civic duty.
With this done to volunteer,
As that patriotic citizen.
Without appearing to fear,
What could or could not happen...
Be faced or approaches near.

But...
Weapons to carry.
Done to leave,
The safety of isolated communities.
Taught falsely and accepted,
To those easily impressionable.
Disqualified and underage,
Youthful hormone changing personalities.
Too young to serve,
Whether enlisted or not...
Into the military.
Swearing more their allegiance,
To their country and humanity.

But no!
These lessons of patriotism,
Is perceived to be...
Seems more easily sought,
Bought and purchased.
Videos.
By parents.
Seeking to depict,
Who the enemies are.
Bringing to their isolated communities,
An urban violence to defend against.
Politically and religiously created.
Inventing a reality to deceive the truth.
Disturbing young minds.
Sickening their mentalities.
Successfully.

And here we are,
Celebrating division.
Done to allow the ones engaged,
And determined.
To spread their rage and craze.
By the few that sit,
Neither to serve civic duty.
Nor have shown it known,
This to be their commitment.
Yet...
'GIVEN' wealth and riches,
To sit in positions of leadership.
With this to condone destroying,
The quality of lives and humanity.
Done.
And to believe,
This to do...
Leaves them to benefit,
From a pointless attention...
To get to destroy themselves!
