Covid-19 Monologue. Poem by Michael Walker

Covid-19 Monologue.

Rating: 5.0

Kindly take off your mask so I can see your face as you see mine
but leave on the plastic gloves, that's just fine.
If you keep one or two metres away I will give you the same space,
so there is social distancing but not indifference,
as we are meant to be united against the corona virus,
which is contagious and may threaten any one of us.
In the shops keep providing hand sanitizers,
which are better than just soap and water.

I would keep the bars closed indefinitely
and suspend mainstream sports all winter;
for me the NRL and super rugby do not matter.
I would open the library doors again, turn on the computers.
Some of us do not own a personal computer or tablet.
Even so, lockdown is getting easier, no need for slash and burn.
I hope you keep lowering the levels, Ms. Ardern.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
As everyone knows, Ms. Jacinda Ardern is the New Zealand Prime Minister, and she announced lockdown level four to combat COVID-19.
She was largely successful in the measures she took.
I have given my impressions of living under lockdown in my country for the last six weeks. I know it is like a selection of my personal likes and dislikes.
Still in Level 2 in New Zealand, the bars have opened their doors again. The shops are open. Social distancing of one or two metres remains. A hundred people are now allowed to gather together. Rugby and League are starting again soon, I have heard.
COMMENTS OF THE POEM

Michael, you have voiced the real concerns of the common man who has been through an harrowing experience during Covid affected last two to three months. It would be better for the government to observe restraint for some more time before opening up everything as before.

Michael, yes, the virus has changed life as we once knew it. Scary times for us ALL.

The virus would have changed life much more in your country, with so many fatalities. New Zealand had only a few deaths. Life has changed, social distancing, hand sanitizers, signing in and out of the library etc.
