Creative Hygiene



While many look for inspiration, “Be relaxed! ”
was Virgil Thomson’s main advice;
creative hygiene pays a price
when higher centers of the brain are being taxed.

This morning on KUSC Denis Bartel played a recording a Virgil Thomson’s advice for composers this morning. Thompson said that performance can be taught but composition requires a person to find his own creative hygiene, which always should include, above all, being relaxed.
