Daffodil Day. Poem by Michael Walker

Daffodil Day.

Rating: 5.0

I took a closer look this evening
at the daffodil I bought this morning
on Daffodil Day, noting it is imitation
yellow fabric that needs no watering
and will last longer than a real flower.
The daffodil is the narcissus type-
bright yellow and modest beauty,
similar to the sunflower yet unique.
The flower is known to the cancer community
since the Cancer Society chose it as a logo;
yet tonight I think how the daffodil
contrasts with the enemy within.

A lovely poignant poem Michael. When I read a list on google of what the beautiful daffodil stood for I understood why this flower was chosen as a symbol of hope in the fight against cancer. The daffodil is such a stunning and gorgeously scented flower that for me symbolizes intense beauty and fragility of life. We only have a short time here on Earth and for some beautiful people like this flower...very short. There is so much to be grateful for in this world due to the efforts of good people. Those who give time, knowledge, or resources to help others in need..bless their hearts. A how important it is to spend time appreciating beauty.... beautiful flowers.. and beautiful people.

I think I have replied to your comment Simone. It is right-on as a comment. I also wanted to stress the ugliness and disorder of cancer as a complete contrast to the daffodil's beauty. It is just a fact of life.
