Decades Ago Poem by Siyabonga A Nxumalo

Decades Ago

Where those lights glow every evening,
Is the only girl I ever loved.

More than 200 km's away.
With all her warmth,
Her beauty,
Her tenderness,
Her humour.

A lady to walk beside a man, and
Walk with him, not behind him.
She is phenomenal,
My Afrikan Queen.

I miss the light in her eyes, and
The way her lips parts a little
When she smiles.

Miss her warm embrace,
Melodic voice,
Enchanting lips, and
Endearing smile.

Voiceless my words still
Makes it to your ears.

decades ago to this day,
A Princess was born,
Escaped the Queen's womb,
Greeted the sun with a cry,
Symbolizing life.

Chubbyfingers grasping the air,
Big Black eyes staring but
Recognizing Nothing.

The sun rose,
Her life began.

Ample feet and legs elevated,
Dancing to the silent tunes only
Her little mind understood.

To all the yesterdays and
More tomorrows.
Happy birthday Empress.
