Different Realities Poem by Paula Glynn

From the unkempt homeless man
Walking down the street in broken shoes
Feeling the isolation and despair
Of a broken heart
Knowing life cold and cruel
Destitute and without family
No one to ease his cursed blues.

The typical local shop worker
Standing there for hours on end
The public nameless faces
The shop worker wishing to swap places
But paid pittance to 'serve' the public
Still, though, earning a wage
At least that is some comfort.

The new shy school girl
Stepping into that classroom
Determined to save face and be brave
Getting along well with other students
Everyone having no choice but to be there
There being some students who give a scare
But everyone survives and laughs in later years.

The charismatic air stewardess
Flying for years every day on an airplane
Knowing of aerodynamics and science
Also skilled with the nervous public
Confident in helping passengers
And being safely and quickly moving through the sky
The public now relaxed about having to fly.

The incredibly attractive rock star
Every one admiring as they do their performances
On that worldwide immortal stage
Their photographs forever taken at every social event
Where they never seem to age
But they are legends blessed with music
And they work hard to make the world a better place.

The tantalizing theatre performer
Dancing and singing in those theatre shows
Making magic happen with their confident skills
The audience loving their soul deep performances
Shouting and clapping with respect
Amazed by the stage workers' talent
The audience knowing they've seen legends.

The dedicated general practitioner
Listening to patients in the medical centre
Sending for tests to diagnose illness and disease
Also offering general medical advice
The GP examining their patient if needed
Having studied hard at medical school
The GP having power and making authority rules.

The now diverse fashion model
With a beautiful and realistic body
Both male and female models photographed
The fashion industry needing looks to enchant
And make fashion magazine pages pop
Magazines popular since forever
The fashion model adding glamour and allure.

The astronaut on the International Space Station
Seeing the blue and green earth in night and day orbit
Travelling fast around the planet in zero gravity
NASA also sending out satellites into the universe
People researching cosmology and astronomy
The astronaut living beyond the scientific rules of earth
But taking the human race into space by doing their work.

The talented modern fiction writer
Having a vast imagination from good to evil
Creating worlds with the tapping of their computer keyboard
Adding clever details to their stories
Adding treacherous twists and fatalistic turns
Where time the writer does not burn
For excitement and entertainment must be moulded.

The socially liberated librarian
Sticking to loaning books
Members of the public library loving the selection
Browsing through different genres
From crime, thrillers, romance and more
Books firing the imagination in the fascinated reader
The librarian also loving the quiet work place.

The iconic filmmaker
Complete legends and creating genius movies
The selection of movies wonderfully vast
But every movie tells a valuable story
Even if horror films can be too gory
But milder movies for me do entertain
And when trying to talk in the cinema do refrain!
