Disrespecting Family Poem by RoseAnn V. Shawiak

Disrespecting Family

Rating: 5.0

Being amongst people in a restaurant, couples sitting to-
gether talking, families with children, enjoying their
time with one another.

A couple walking in with two sons, one blind, the other
mentally challenged, boys wanting to sit near the front
of the restaurant.

Mom sits at a separate table next to them, expecting her
husband to sit with her, but he goes to the back of the
room, alone.

Father gets food for his blind son, wife gets her own,
husband goes back and eats by himself leaving the other
son sitting there with nothing to eat or drink.

Looking back at his father repeatedly, he continues to
ignore him, after ten minutes Mom finally gets up, gets
food for the younger son and drinks for both of them.

Really weird abusive father, totally disrespecting his
wife and children, neglecting them, eating by himself,
not seeming to care what happens to his family.

I described an earlier poem as one without shadows because the mood is sweet throughout. Here it is all shadows. I mean shadow really in the Jungian sense referring to those negative aspects of life we ignore, deny, refuse to integrate into our light-being. Terrible things result: I can only dimly imagine how wounded those boys will be as adults. Your compassionate eye was helpless.

It is so sad to see family disintegrating thus. Though living under one roof, no love is lost between the husband and wife. Poor children are the victims in such broken families. Once they grow up loveless, they will begin to hate the whole world and the outcome will be disastrous! Your poem is a warning to many, especially to the selfish husbands! Thanks for sharing your concern over weakening ties between man and wife! A 10
