Distortion Poem by Marama Kelly

Life gets so distorted by the way we see and hear
We each see things so differently including our every fear
Our thoughts, our view, imaginings give solace to the soul
never knowing what is to come can bind us in a hole
What's left for some is right for others
just as up can be down, can be up
and where one sees in colours so bright
another can't see light of day

Life can lead us up a hill or down, if the scene is right
and depending on our view to see each turn can be real tight
And if we all follow the one who leads the way that's up ahead
we may just find, we're in a bind, we're led to death, all dead
But in the same, we walk our own, not knowing where to go
we can soon see that the choice we made has lost its special glow

We do not see with eyes so clear or hear with ears so tuned
Instead we see what others think and believe what others do
We stand against adversity while forgetting what we've done
we point and poke and make a joke embracing life in fun
And then when things don't go our way we blame the ones in front
Never seeing the choice we made, was what was the affront

Life does offer twists and turns it even offers hope
and those who find the treasure laid just cannot seem to cope
Instead of sharing to all men, they hide it in the dark
and when they find they're in a bind, they sing and shine like a lark
And still the treasure stays well hid, not given to a living soul
Instead what's given is condemnation, judgment is the goal

So life gets so distorted by the way we see and hear
and if we want true peace to come we'd better be aware
For this true peace that comes from heaven it does not pick or choose
it falls upon both good and bad, on happy and on sad
And if we want to share in it, we need to change our view
we need to check our thoughts and deeds and replant fresh new seeds
For its true love that is the key that overlooks all sin
and when we know what God has planned, we will all then win
