Domestic Shades 7

Rating: 5.0

Sumangali Prarthanai: -

An occasion auspicious with elysian reverence
Grand-ma descended from her heavenly residence
Decades two ago was grand-ma's demise
Wished by her folks here to arise
She came now on to her life- place
Soulfully visited down to grace

Seated comfortably her photo on smiles
Lit lamps glittered on both sides
Incense smoking fragrantly into her nose
Big bindi made her majestic to pose
Garlanded with jasmine and rose
Newly dressed grand-ma there arose

Sumangalis dead to be commemorated
Sumangalis alive were feasted
Grand gastronomy for those sumangalis
With gifts of turmeric, kumkum, and flowers
Me seated there, already in shivers..
Quick as lightning after some minutes
Zap! grand-ma transited elsewhere to possess
Lady next to me fell on jigging tosses
In an abysm of fear I screamed ammaaaaa.......

Note: Sumangalis are married indian women. If a sumangali dies before her husband dies
She is then considered to be godly and is worshipped by special offering of a feast
given to the still alive sumangalis

The rituals of sumangalis are performed to commemorate their devotion to the God and sas a token of acceptance they are taken before their husbands is the reward for their piousness. It is like Pind Daan. I have witnessed it several times but first time in poem. Wonderful poem. I am sure those who are not aware will come to know about it through this wonderful poem.10***

Going through this poem I came to know about Sumangalis who are married indian women. How a Sumangali is considered to be godly and is worshipped by special offering of a feast given to the still alive sumangalis if she dies first than her husband. Nice work madam, thanks for sharing.
