Few Do To Choose Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Few Do To Choose

Few...
Will choose to do the expected.
With respect to give,
No one questions.
Few...
Unexpectedly,
Will come to the rescue of another.
Without one excuse heard made to make.
Dependable.
They are known to be.
Thoughtful, caring.
And...
With unmistakably shown sincerity.

Now...
Seen on a daily basis to exhibit,
There are observed...
Those few who claim to be paying attention.
To learn a lesson.
Giving eye contact with a nod or two.
But will fake to pretend,
They know what it takes...
How it is to be of service to others.

And yet the doing of it,
Seems nowhere to appear on their agenda.
Or shown to make known,
What being of service to others mean.
As if to completely understand.
But reluctant to prove the doing of this,
In their own neighborhoods.
To deliver an understanding,
Claimed understood.
From the lips to dismiss the act of it.

"What y'all should and could be doing..."

And,
On and on...
It is heard from the few,
What others could and should do.
But their participation,
Is rarely placed into activation.
Making that difference made,
'They' say...
Is what is needed for real progress.
